The Denver Post
Jerry Krantz, the longtime owner of landmark Denver jazz club El Chapultepec, died Tuesday morning. He was 77.
In its heyday, El Chapultepec welcomed music legends such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as visiting rock stars like Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger. Krantz’s insistence on free, live, straight-ahead jazz every night of the week helped the ‘Pec — as insiders affectionately call it — stand out on the corner of 20th and Market Streets.
Even President Bill Clinton played his tenor sax on stage there.

Dec 19, 03:57 PMFrom the blog: The Working Musician
By David J. Hahn
I’m going to go out on a limb here and assume that a lot of you reading this are musicians much like me – you grew up somewhere in the 80s or 90s, you were introduced to music at school or church, you had a few private teachers, you studied a little or a lot of music at college and now you’re out in the world as a professional musician – making recordings to sell online, playing gigs, teaching lessons and – clearly – reading blogs.
Why should somebody like us join the musicians’ union? Or more to the point – why do we bother to have a musicians’ union at all?

There are plenty of resources about the music business, but this website is about the musician business–the actual people who create the music. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were nearly 170,000 musicians employed just in the United States between 2003 and 2005, and throughout the rest of the world there are many, many times that number.
If you are one of these musicians, this is your website.

Jul 24, 08:54 AMDoug Adams’ principal argument for a comprehensive overhaul of Boettcher Concert Hall is simple: It’s time. In the last decade or so, the city has built or expanded nearly all of its other important civic structures, from Invesco Field at Mile High and Denver International Airport to expansions of the Colorado Convention Center and Denver Art Museum… The symphony has agreed to increase its commitment of private funding to $30 million. The city’s proposed portion has been shaved to $60 million, with $20 million as part of a $70.9 section to refurbish public buildings and $40 million as part of a $70 million cultural facilities component.
