The LYS Training Orchestra provides a beginning orchestral program for elementary string players who have had one year of playing experience. Music games reinforce musicianship skills such as beginning music theory, rhythm and scale patterns and musical terms.
The LYS Chamber Orchestra provides a unique opportunity for young musicians to experience both orchestral playing and chamber music performance. Each week students rehearse with both the string orchestra and their assigned chamber ensembles. All participants receive small ensemble coaching from qualified chamber music mentors.
Unique Programs – The goal of our varied programs is to show students that music offers them a lifetime of limitless possibilities. All students perform each spring in a Side by Side Concert with some of Denver’s finest professional musicians. In addition we give students an opportunity to expand their musical horizons and study a variety of music genres with a 4 week Musical Explorations led by a different guest clinician each season.
Community Outreach – The LYS small ensembles program allows young people to share their musical talents with the community in a series of outreach concerts.
