Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra Announces New Executive Director

Jun 6, 03:33 PM

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Colorado Springs Philharmonic Orchestra Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Nathan Newbrough as Executive Director of the Philharmonic. Having recently served as Executive Director of the Amarillo Symphony, Newbrough will replace Executive Director Susan Greene, who retired in March after five years with the Philharmonic. Newbrough will start in early August.

After an extensive national search, the Board is excited to have selected Newbrough to lead the Colorado Springs Philharmonic into a new era of expansion and growth. Newbrough brings many years of nonprofit management and industry experience to this assignment. He led the expansion of two orchestras in strategic planning, re-branding, increasing ticket sales, introducing new fundraising strategies, building financial stability and growth, and fostering excellent rapport with musicians. Newbrough has served as a board member for the Greater Southwest Music Festival, is a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club of Amarillo.

“I am so honored to be asked to join the Colorado Springs community,” said Newbrough. “From my first moments on the ground, I could tell that Colorado Springs cares for quality of life and believes in the power of the arts. Colorado Springs deserves a world-class symphony orchestra and the Philharmonic is poised to live up to its calling. All the pieces are in place. What an exciting time!”

Before joining the Amarillo Symphony, Newbrough was the executive director of the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes in Elmira, N.Y., and Corning, N.Y. He also has worked with the Greenwich Village Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the North Carolina Symphony and the American Symphony Orchestra League. He holds Bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and Music
Industry Studies from Appalachian State University. He has taken multiple courses in orchestra management from the American Symphony Orchestra League.

On a personal note, Nathan is married to Marie Newbrough and they have a daughter Sarah who is 22 months old. He grew up in Outer Banks, North Carolina and Fredericksburg, Virginia. He took his first Executive Director position at age 27 with the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes.

The Board, music leadership, staff and musicians look forward to working with Newbrough as the organization embarks on an exciting time of growth and change.
