Front Range Youth Symphony Auditions

*FRONT RANGE YOUTH SYMPHONY conducted by Cody Gifford brings together talented musicians through the age of 21 for unique training in orchestral repertoire and the opportunity to perform in three major concerts each season at the Arvada
Center. Students must audition to participate in the program. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings at the Arvada Center from 6:30 to 9:00 PM, September through April. The season begins with a required weeklong summer music camp at the Arvada Center, which includes an overnight retreat in Breckenridge with the Breckenridge Music Institute. The fee for the summer music camp, which takes place in August, is $110.00. Tuition fees for the 2008-2009 season are $350.00.

*SYMPHONIC STRINGS ORCHESTRA conducted by Danielle Johnson was formed to create a high-level string ensemble to perform advanced chamber literature. It is designed for exceptional string musicians up to the age of 18. Students must
audition to participate in the program. The Symphonic Strings Orchestra concentrates on refining students’ orchestral playing techniques by focusing on ensemble skills, sight-reading, advanced playing positions, and advanced bowing techniques. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at the Arvada Center from 7:30 to 9:00 PM., September through April. The season begins with a required weeklong summer music camp at the Arvada Center. The fee for the summer music camp, which takes place in August, is $75.00. Tuition fees for the 2008-2009 season are $250.00.

*CONCERT STRINGS ORCHESTRA conducted by Danielle Johnson is an advanced program for students who have played at least two years and can read music. Students must audition to participate in the program. This group emphasizes music reading skills, proper playing positions, and the development of orchestral playing techniques. Musician’s ages range from 8 to 16. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings at the Arvada Center from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, September through April. Tuition fees for the 2008-2009 season are $250.00.

There is a $15.00 audition fee payable to the Arvada Center.

Students who are members of any FRYS group are also members of their school’s instrumental music program.

It is our belief that public school music programs offer students, among other things, valuable ensemble training and necessary repetition. The Front Range Youth Symphony Orchestras seek to enhance, not replace, school music programs.
