CSO Recording Garners Grammy® Consideration

Dec 15, 11:59 AM

Colorado Symphony Orchestra (CSO) Conductor Laureate Marin Alsop and percussionist Evelyn Glennie have been nominated for a GRAMMY® Award in the category of Best Instrumental Soloist(s) in Performance (with Orchestra) on the Naxos American Classics recording of Michael Daugherty’s UFO performed by the CSO. The nomination of Alsop and Glennie marks the first time a Colorado Symphony Orchestra recording has been listed among finalists in a GRAMMY® category.

The UFO composition by Daugherty, a former composer-in-residence with the CSO, was recorded at Boettcher Concert Hall in November 2002 and released in November 2004 by Naxos. The CD included another Daugherty composition, Philadelphia Stories, also recorded by Alsop and the CSO. UFO, written by Daugherty in 1999 for Glennie, is inspired by unidentified flying objects and sounds and features Glennie playing a waterphone, mechanical siren and conventional percussion instruments. UFO producer Tim Handley has also been nominated for a GRAMMY® Award in the category of Producer Of The Year, Classical.
