Education Director

The Colorado Music Festival & Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts (CMF & RMCMA) presents a sixweek summer music festival at Chautauqua in Boulder, and operates a year]round community music school in Lafayette providing music instruction on all instruments and voice to more than 500 students of all ages and abilities each week. (Visit www.comusic.org for more information). The Education Director is the principal architect of all festival and music school education programs. This position requires a strong background in music education, and knowledge of and commitment to the core principals of the National Guild for Community Arts Education, including excellence and access, which guide our music education programs.

Qualifications: The CMF & RMCMA Education Director will have formal training in music education, including a MME (preferred) or MM; a solid understanding of instrumental, vocal and general music pedagogy; familiarity with Jean Piagetfs work, multiple learning modes, multiple sensory modes, and general familiarity with learning styles and behavioral characteristics of learners at various ages; knowledge and awareness of particular teaching methods, including Dalcroze, Orff, Kodaly, etc.; as well as an understanding of vocal and instrumental learning in early childhood, K]12, and adults/seniors. A minimum of three years teaching experience is required. Music education expertise combined with excellent communication skills, energy and enthusiasm, solid computer skills (minimally word and
excel), a demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and success in a leadership position(s) will characterize the successful candidate.

The Education Director is a part-time, exempt position at .60 FTE, with seasonal variability averaging 25 hrs/wk. The CMF & RMCMA Education Director will work closely with the School Operations Manager,
and both report to the Executive Director. Education Director responsibilities include:
.. Develop and evaluate all music education programs and initiatives for the school and festival
.. Select, supervise and evaluate all school faculty
.. Support the development and implementation of strategies designed to enhance the education experience for program participants of all ages and abilities
.. Develop the annual school catalogue of program offerings
.. Work with staff to identify and implement music education outreach programs
.. Seek opportunities to expand music education program participation, including partnerships, collaborations, community outreach, etc.
.. Staff the Education & Outreach committee of the board.
