Denver Mayoral Race - Letter from Michael Hancock

Denver, CO 80204

Dear Pete,

Music has always been part of my life. Growing up poor in North Denver, I have appreciated the wealth and variety of professional music offerings Denver enjoys….from Boettcher Concert Hall to the Pepsi Center, my family and I truly “get” the music scene.

My wife, Mary Louise, is a professional musician….so we know firsthand how musicians struggle to make a living, while giving pleasure to thousands. I am aware of the concerns Denver’s professional musicians have in the face of orchestral budget cuts, and I look forward to working with you to ensure that Denver’s fine musicians command the compensation they deserve. As Mayor, I will initiate discussions, locally and regionally, to review arts and culture public funding policies, to ensure that fair competitive practices are maintained.

Please take a look at my arts platform at www.hancockfordenver.com: I know you will agree that my plan will ensure the ongoing expansion of Denver’s vibrant cultural scene, and address issues of fairness and investing in our creative capital.

Please join Mary Louise and me on Thursday June 2, 5:30 pm at the Plus Gallery, where we will have a Meet and Greet for the arts community and discuss the challenges and promises for a healthy Hancock Cultural Industry.

I would very much appreciate your vote for me. Michael Hancock, in Denver’s mayoral runoff.

Michael B. Hancock
Candidate for Mayor of Denver

  1. I wonder if anyone else is disturbed by the slogan “Hancock Cultural Industry”. Sounds like some giant corporation taking over the artists and the arts scene. On second thought, the SCFD has already done that. What we need is a leader who can give the arts back to the artists, those of us who have committed to making a living at it. This is weak and pales in comparison to Romer’s letter.
