After eleven successful years as founder and Music Director of the Mercury Ensemble, Maestro Thomas A. Blomster saw the need to expand the Mercury Ensemble into a full professional chamber orchestra and in the summer of 2007 the Colorado Chamber Orchestra was founded. Inspired by working with Maestro James Ramsey and the Littleton Chorale, the CCO retains the wonderful musicians from the Mercury Ensemble as the core group while adding many more of the finest musicians available in Colorado. Members of the CCO belong to or have performed with the Colorado Symphony, Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Colorado Ballet Orchestra, Boulder Philharmonic, Greeley Philharmonic, Ft. Collins Symphony Orchestra, Cheyenne (WY) Symphony as well as the Mercury Ensemble. Many of the members also teach at local universities and schools such as the University of Colorado, University of Denver, Metropolitan State College, University of Northern Colorado, and Colorado State University.
With the tremendous growth that Colorado has experienced recently many opportunities exist for an eclectic exciting homegrown chamber orchestra to serve the state of Colorado. In its first season, the CCO will collaborate with the Littleton Chorale on three programs, including their wonderful High School Choral Festival. We will also sponsor a series of Side by Side concerts, including performances with area youth orchestra and a variety of chamber concerts with amateur, student, and professional musicians. For the 2008-2009 season the CCO will present five concerts of the professional chamber orchestra, as well as collaborations with the Littleton Chorale and our Side by Side concerts.
