Inspired by the late Mayor of Englewood Olga Wolosyn’s passionate desire to bring arts experiences to the greater Englewood community, Englewood Arts has been presenting various productions for the past nine years. The Englewood Civic Center’s beautiful atrium and adjoining Community Room served as the performance venues until 2005, when Hampden Hall opened with the annual “Back to Bach” concert. Our debut concert was “Rhapsody at Englewood Civic Center” performed on January 30, 2000, by the Up Close and Musical ensemble, featuring piano soloist Jeff Shoemaker in Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
Although chamber ensembles of Colorado Symphony musicians are involved in a majority of the concerts, Englewood Arts Presents has included a variety of other local artists, including Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, Marta Burton (Celtic songs), Extasis Tango Ensemble, the Spirituals Project, Colorado Baroque Ensemble, and others.

Englewood Arts Presents 2:00pm. Englewood Arts Presents: ‘SOUTH OF THE BORDER!’ ENGLEWOOD ARTS PRESENTS concludes its 2011-12 Chamber Music of the Masters series with a program entitled ‘South of the Border,’ featuring CSO Assistant Principal 2nd Violin, Allegra Wermuth and CSO colleagues. Allegra will perform double duty as conductor and soloist for this concert. Allegra joined the Colorado Symphony in September 2003 as Assistant Principal Second Violin. She holds degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and Northern Illinois University where she studied with Roland and Almita Vamos and Shmuel Ashkenasi, respectively. Along with her orchestral duties, she maintains a large teaching studio with students ranging from age 3 to 17. She teaches at Preludio, an intensive summer program for highly talented young violinists at Ithaca College. Allegra is also an avid knitter and is the co-founder of the online magazine, Petite Purls, which offers free patterns for children's garments. She also designs knitwear with her own pattern line, Fiddlestix Designs. She lives with her husband and daughter ‘as close to the mountains as she can.’ The program will include Villa-Lobos’ String Quartet No. 1 (CSO musicians Rachel Segal and John Hilton, violin; Mary Cowell, viola; Thomas Heinrich, cello) and Piazzolla’s The Four Season of Buenos Aires, the latter of which will feature Allegra as soloist and conductor. A few words from Allegra on this work: ‘The first time I heard Piazzolla's Four Seasons of Buenos Aires was a live performance by Gidon Kremer and his group, KremerATA at Orchestra Hall in Chicago. I have been obsessed with the piece ever since. Last summer I had the opportunity to play the Seasons, as soloist and conductor, and I am really excited to be playing it again with my friends and colleagues from the Colorado Symphony.’ We hope you will join us for this grand finale to what has been a fabulous 10th anniversary season!
