David Lee Roberts has been a professional musician for over 40 years. He is known as one of the most versatile musicians in the Denver area, having worked as a performer, conductor and arranger in a broad range of musical styles. He is equally at home with jazz, standards and pop music.
David has performed with such headliners as Diahann Carroll, Bob Hope, Perry Como, Nick Perito, Buddy Greco, Danny & the Juniors, the Drifters, the Shirelles, the Coasters, Bo Diddley, Paul Williams and many others, as well as with the Denver, Aurora, Evergreen and Colorado Symphony Orchestras. In addition to performing with his own band, Just Friends, since 1986, he has worked with a number of area vocalists and bands.
David has been active in musical theatre for much of his career, and was music director at the Bonfils Theater in Denver for Jesus Christ, Superstar, Guys and Dolls and the original Bonfils production of House of Blues; he has performed at the Denver Center for Performing Arts in My One and Only, Annie, Elliot Ness in Cleveland and Barrio Babies, as well as in productions at the original Elitch Gardens Theater. He has also written and produced shows for his own production company, and has arranged for numerous choral groups, including the University of Miami Community Chorus, the Arvada Center Chorale, The Denver Gay Men‘s Chorus, Harmony and Ye Wanton Singers.
David has a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Colorado and a Masterís degree from the University of Miami. He has taught at Miami-Dade Community College in Miami, Florida, where he was also Department Chairman, at the University of Colorado at Denver and at Metropolitan State College. He is Music and Choir Director at First Unitarian Denver.
