Whether it is an original jazz composition, a quiet ballad, a driving swing chart or one of several Latin offerings, there‘s always plenty of room for improvisation, often in a “showcase” setting that gives a player an extended opportunity to be heard. Some of the music is drawn from jazz giants such as Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and Bill Evans, some comes from the great American songbook of standards by Johnny Mercer, Rogers/Hart and Johnny Mandel and some comes from Franz‘s original (and occasionally quirky) musical ideas — a bolero in the middle of a funk chart; what‘s up with that? In all cases, the music is fresh and the musicians the best.”
