Since its founding in 1993, the Boulder Brass has earned a national reputation for innovation, style, and musical artistry. This chamber ensemble of twelve musicians brings a new dimension to the traditional brass ensemble with their cutting-edge, original arrangements and the addition of a wide array of percussion instruments. With this prototypical instrumentation and unique crossover programming, they perform a multitude of musical styles in an appealing and enriching format.

Here is what the presenters, composers, and reviewers are saying:

“I was delighted to get the CD of the Grand Canyon (Sinfonia).... your ensemble is really spectacular. I think the performance is terrific. Rich, full-sounding, and a gorgeous blend! I am really impressed.”

-Eric Ewazen; composer, the Julliard School of Music

“Truly, Saturday night was an outstanding concert! From the moment the Boulder Brass started and right to the end, you had the audience ëin the palm of your hands!í What a great group and such virtuososÖeveryone. Many of the pieces ran shivers down the spine with such a magnificent sound.”

-Gail Bunker; concert manager, Celebrity Concert Series, St. George, Utah

“While I am great fan of the brass quintet, I occasionally like to be flooded in the sonorous waves of a large brass ensemble. The mix of these excellent musicians with Michael Allenís scoring for (twelve) players results in a clarity comparable to that of a quintet, but with resonant depths of sound not possible with only five performers.”

-Paul Mansur; the Horn Call, journal of the International Horn Society

“The conventional wisdom is that the best players can only be found in the major cultural centers of New York, London, Berlin, etc., but the Boulder Brass have blown that theory out of the water – they are extremely good.”

-Christine Reed; vice-president of artists and repertoire, Sony Classical

“Our audience rarely confers the clichÈ of the standing ovation. The Boulder Brass may not have realized that when they received a lengthy and lively one. It was well deserved.”

-Father Bruno Becker; Abbey Bach Festival, Saint Benedict, Oregon
