What the AcoustiCoil IS --

 
Fashioned of tough, moisture resistant, industrial polyester, the AcousticCoil resembles a small, compressible sleeve with stepped interior dimensions.



Each model of this new accessory insert adjusts to fit varying bore sizes. A spring fit assures that it will stay securely in place and it is easily installed and removed from the instrument by the player. Models are now available for BRASS: Trumpets (Bb, C, D, and Piccolo), Cornet, Flugel, French Horn, Tenor and Bass Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba and Bugles; WOODWINDS: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophones (Alto, Tenor and Baritone), Oboe and Bassoon. The Inventor, Don Novy --

Don Novy is listed in both “Who’s Who of American Inventors” and “Who’s Who of American Musicians”. Now a retired music educator and trumpet teacher, it was during his teens in Chicago that he studied with the renowned symphonic trumpet artist and custom buider Elden Benge. It was this early exposure to the insightful tutelege of a master teacher and continued interest and curiosity into the technical and physical make-up of the trumpet that led him to the discovery of ‘AAIIRR’ in 1973. Subsequent research produced the AcoustiCoil and now 21 specific models of it for almost all of the brass and wind instruments.

An interview article appears in the Fall issue of Idaho Music Notes is reprinted here by permission of the author. It explains the history and development of the AcoustiCoil.
